Like many people in Brussels I was following yesterday the election of Jose Manuel Barroso as Commission President in the European Parliament. Specifically I was asking myself what role the Socialist Group in the EP played.

I wanted to write about this since long time. I strongly believe the Belgian Post (“La Poste“) is one of the worst customer service experiences which the country has to offer. And an ideal exampe of where competition will help improve it.

Great news for transparency: the European Commission has setup a new website that allows querying all beneficieries of EU grants. It’s not perfect yet but it’s a huge step forward.

This week the European Union has its annual Mobility Week. Brussels, like many other cities in Europe will have a car-free day on Sunday. But there are some points that I think could be improved.

The European Commission today published Regulation 259/2008 which requires EU member states to publish information on agriculture subsidies in April of every year. A milestone in EU transparency. But hopefully further ones will follow.
